NCIS LA Book tag | a tag where I have no idea about anything but the books

Hey there, and happy mother’s day! Today, I went on a bike ride and picnic with my family for mother’s day, and it was very very fun. Anyways, I was tagged by the wonderful Rukky for this tag, so here we go!

*By the way, I have never watched this show or even heard of this show, so yeah, I kind of don’t know what I’m doing here.*

How I did on my winter TBR

SO… I made a TBR (to be read) list of ten books back in December, and now that it’s officially spring, I thought I’d see how I did! And this is a short introduction paragraph, but I really don’t care, so, moving on now…

YARC 2020: Year of the Asian Reading Challenge

Hello!!! As I said about a week ago, I have decided to participate in the year of the Asian reading challenge! I know that I probably should have signed up and started back in January, but it’s better late than never!

The Year of the Asian Reading Challenge is a reading challenge hosted by Lily @ Sprinkles of Dreams, Shealea @Shut Up Shealea, Vicky @ Vicky Who Reads and CW @ The Quiet Pond. The goal of this challenge is to read as many books written by Asian authors as you can! Any book by an Asian author counts!

6 month blogiversary!//The book blogging firsts tag and a Q&A with me, the blogger!

Wow! I cannot believe that I have been blogging already for one half a year. That is crazy. That is insane. And this post is two days late, which means that I’ve been blogging for MORE than half a year. 6 months and two days. Anyways, for this post, I am including my answers to the book blogging firsts tag, a Q & A with me, and a feedback form, so I can hear all of your feedback on my blog!

It’s my six month blogiversary exactly today and I have a post almost ready that needs way more work but here I am ranting about stuff in my life right now

Hi it’s very late where I am but I just want to write right now so here I am.

Isn’t that pretty? (Photo by Oleg Magni on Pexels.com)

So here I am with a few things that I was terribly wrong about.

  1. First of all, I thought that hitting the 6 month mark for blogging would be crazy, and that by then I would feel like an almost, kind of, partially experienced blogger. It is not so. I feel like I just started blogging a few days ago…
  2. Whenever I get an email from wordpress, or see a notification that someone has liked, commented, seen, noticed, viewed I am so so happy, and that is one thing that I thought would get less exciting over time. Well it doesn’t, and that is actually not a bad thing to be terribly wrong about.
  3. I thought this was a good topic for me to write stuff about but now I can only think of two things so I’m moving on now…

Tomorrow is the solo and ensemble festival, where I’m going to be playing a trumpet solo for the judges and I think it’s kind of a competition but I don’t know. I really don’t.

I have a science test on march third and the review packet is due Monday. I don’t like homework.

I have math homework that I’m not looking forwards to doing.

I have french homework that I’m also very much not looking forwards to doing.

WE ARE STARTING A UNIT ON ANNE FRANK AND THE HOLOCAUST IN HISTORY CLASS!!!!!!!!! I am so so so happy about that, because that is such an interesting topic for me. I like history almost as much as I like books. That is probably a bit of an exaggeration, but anyways, I like history. And one of my favorite genres of books is wwii historical fiction. Also I consider it very bad like extremely bad that not the holocaust or either of the world wars has been a unit in school up until now. I’m in 7th grade, and I’m happy that we’re finally getting to some of it, but it’s still not fantastic. I guess it’s an improvement, so I’m happy about that.

I have ballet tomorrow. Before the solo and ensemble festival.

I have waaay to much going on right now in my life.

But tonight I watched Frozen two with my sister.

And it wasn’t actually too bad.

I actually kind of enjoyed it.

Although I have been ferociously opposed to watching this movie because I am not a fan of the first frozen, I actually like it, and am glad I watched it.

My reading schedule is kinda boring right now, because of OBOB, the reading competition I’m doing. I’m rererererererereading the books so I know them really well, but it’s not getting me new stories, new words, new plot twists, new characters, and that is what I practically live for, so I kind of miss that.

Anyways, this post is a lot different than I expected it to be, and I will be getting that whole fancy 6 month blogiversary post with an extra special thing that you’ll just have to wait and see about.

So, that’s what I’ll end off with. And now I’m off to sleep, having at least completed a post for my 6 month blogiversary, I guess!

Happy reading!

The Liebster Award

Hello everybody! I’m very excited to do this tag/award because I’ve seen it on so many blogs, and I think it’s amazing that this award has been floating around the internet since 2011! I was nominated by Lori @ Lori’s Bookshelf Reads for this award, so thank you Lori! Anyways, without further ado, here is the Liebster Award!

There’s this thing called OBOB

Oregon Battle of the Books.

You read 16 books.

You read them again.

You infuse every little detail of those books into your brain.

You compete with your amazing team.

You lose.

You watch the teams in the final battle at your school get questions wrong you know you could answer.

The winning team goes to regionals.

The winning team goes to state.

The winning team gets second place.

Your team beat that team.

Your team answered more questions about the books correctly than that team.

Your team should have gone to regionals.

Your team should have gone to state.

Your team should have battled against other kids.

Your team should have gone.

You should have gone.

Instead, your team got third place in the school.

Third place.

Behind the two teams that your team beat.

You lost to the two teams that lost to you.

How is that fair.

It’s not.

It was two years ago.

You were in fifth grade.

You can’t forget it.

You can’t let it go.

You can’t accept it.

Because you worked hard for it.

Because you tried.

And you won.

And winning wasn’t enough to win.

And you know now.

You know that it was the system.

It was the system that messed with everything.

And it was the system that brought down a team.

And it was the system that brought down your dream of winning.

A dream you’d had your whole life.

And so now when you still have that dream.

And maybe even a chance to win.

And another year of middle school to try.

Another year of middle school to do.

Four years of high school to try some more.

Why is it so hard to move past?

Why don’t just forget it?

Because in elementary school.

In third fourth and fifth grade.

OBOB is fun.

Reading is fun.

OBOB is interesting.

Reading is interesting.

OBOB is cool.

Reading is accepted.

And in middle school.

In 7th grade.

OBOB is funny.

Reading is hilarious.

OBOB is school.

Reading is more school.

OBOB isn’t cool.

Reading takes time.

OBOB gets you laughed at.

Reading makes you the only one in the library reading books with words.

So why not?

When you had the chance to do good.

That very chance was ruined.

And now, when you look at your blog and all the other blogs, maybe there are kids, teenagers who read.

Maybe there are people out there who don’t think its crazy to read all 16 of the books.

And maybe there are people out there who read.

So maybe when in 6th grade when no one I knew was doing OBOB, I didn’t do it because I was scared.

And maybe this year, even though things fell apart because of a broken commitment, and not a broken system.

I do still have a team.

And there are other teams to compete with.

So even though things could have gone better.

Much better.

Enormously better.

There’s still hope.

And so maybe I’m not the only 13 year old who reads.

And maybe I’m not the only 13 year old who writes.

And maybe not even the only 13 year old who blogs.

And maybe now I can start to get over it.

Even though I will never accept that I lost.

Because I didn’t.

I know I won.

And maybe this year.

Possibly.

Perhaps.

I can do my best.

And win.

And most importantly.

This year.

I will read.

Because as long as I can read.

As long as I have access to books.

I have the characters.

I have the stories.

I have the books.

So I will read.

But I won’t forget.

So I will read

But I won’t let go.

So I will read.

And I will read more.

Because I will always read.

2020 Bookish Resolutions

Hello! Right now, in Oregon, it’s really rainy, and so for me, it’s the perfect time the read and write, and curl up with a cup of tea and a book! However, right now, I present to you my (very very late) reading, writing and blogging goals for 2020:

Reading goals:

Number of books: My 2020 reading goal is to read 200 books. I don’t know how realistic this is, because I’ve never counted the books I read for an entire year before. However, I’m really excited to see how many books I end up reading. In June or so, if I haven’t reached 100 books, or if I’m not even close, I might change my goal to 180 books, but I hope that I’ll end up reading 200 books and reach my goal!

Genres: I want to read more fantasy novels, and mystery novels, because those are both genres that I enjoy reading that I almost never get to.

Writing goals:

Posts: I want to write 160 posts this year. Again, I’m not sure how realistic this goal is, but I think that it’s a good number to aim for!

My story: I also want to finish my first very rough draft of the book/story I’m writing. I’m hoping that it will be somewhere between 50 and 75 thousand words. I will also continue to post (hopefully) every two weeks another chapter!

Challenges: I want to try taking part in a writing challenge of some sort. If I do do one, it would probably be in the summer, when I don’t have to worry about managing that and school at the same time.

Consistent writing: I want to try to write a little everyday. Whether its journaling, or blogging, or writing a story, I am going to try to write a little every single day.

Journaling: I want to try to write in my journal 3 or 4 times a week (at least). I have a journal that I’ve been trying to write in everyday, but I know that every single day isn’t going to happen because I have so many other things I have to do, but I will try to write at least 3 times a week in my journal!

Blogging goals:

Posting schedule: I really want to consistently post 3 times a week, and that is what I will try to do.

Varied post topics: I want to also try to vary the posts that I write; discussion posts, top ten lists, reading updates, monthly tbr posts… (you get the point).

Recommendation posts: They seem really fun to do, and I enjoy reading them, so I want to try doing some!

Other goals:

Blog hopping: I want to discover lots of new blogs in 2020!

ARCs: (advanced reader’s copy) I don’t yet know exactly how ARCs work, but I really want to figure that out, and get ARCs from publishers in exchange for an honest review, as I’ve seen on so many other blogs!

Music: This isn’t really a book-related topic, but I play piano and trumpet, and I want to make more time to practice these instruments!

What are your 2020 resolutions? Are any of them similar to mine? Chat with me in the comments below!

Happy Reading!

WWW Wednesday 13

Happy anything and everything, you guys! WordPress sent me a notification saying that I have so far written 50 posts! That is crazy, and so exciting! Anyways, here’s my weekly reading update, WWW Wednesday which is a weekly meme hosted by  Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. How it works is I answer 3 questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

I am still currently reading The Book Thief, by Marcus Zusak. The Book Thief is a really good book! I just don’t know if its good for me. Some books I cannot put down and have to finish in one day. This book isn’t really like that. It’s a very compelling story, but it just isn’t making me want to sit down for a few hours and read it.

I’m also rereading It Ain’t so Awful, Falafel, by Firoozeh Dumas. As always, this book is amazing!

What did you recently finish reading?

I know that I have recently finished reading something, but I really can’t remember what it is!

What do you think you’ll read next?

Next, I want to read Girl on a Wire, by Gwenda Bond.

What are you reading right now? Have you read the book thief? Chat with me in the comments below!

Happy Reading!

The Real Neat Blog Award

I have been working to transform a little corner of my room into a reading, nook, and I got a really cozy chair for Chanukah, so the only thing I have left to do is reorganize my bookshelf. I’m actually going to organize my books by genre, and then (if I have the patience) by author within each genre, so I’m really excited for that. Also, happy Hanukkah if you celebrate it! Today is the second night, and I’m so excited! Anyways, less introduction, and more bookish stuff:

Rukky @ Eternity Books tagged me for the real neat blog award. I’ve only ever participated in on book tag before, and that was a few months ago, and I want to do more, so thank you so much, Rukky, for nominating me for the real neat blog award, and without further ado, here’s the Real Neat Blog Award!

Rules:

  • Display the Award Logo.
  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and post a link to their blog.
  • Answer the questions of the one who nominated you.
  • Nominate some bloggers.
  • Ask them seven questions.

Questions:

Did you meet any authors this year? If so, which ones?

I did not meet any authors this year. To be honest, I’ve never met an author before! Before I started this blog, I didn’t know you could meet authors. I mean, of course you can meet authors, but the only time I’d ever tried to reach out to a blogger before was when I wrote a letter to Ilyasah Shabazz, the author of Betty Before X. I emailed it to 3 different emails, and I never got a reply, so that was really disappointing. There are a lot of things I didn’t know about; ARCs, the fact that book blogging existed, and basically other stuff like that!

What were your top 3 books this year?

That’s hard. Only THREE books! I’ve read so many good books this year, but a few that were really incredible were Sarah’s Key, by The Mother Daughter Book Club series, by Heather Vogel Frederick(I know I’m kind of cheating here, but one series, one book, same thing, right?) and Everything, Everything, by Nicola Yoon.

What’s your most anticipated book for 2020?

I don’t know. I’m not really anticipating any books right now. I don’t think I’ve ever really anticipated a book. If there’s an unfinished series and the next book isn’t coming out for a year, well, that hasn’t ever happened to me.

Coffee or Tea?

Definitely tea! I personally think that coffee tastes gross, but everyone has different tastes!

My favorite warm drink to have while curled up with a book though is Chai mixed with warm, foamy milk. I guess that kind of fits in the category of tea!

Which underrated book do you love?

I think that The Penderwicks series is totally and completely underrated. That series is so magical, and fun, and has such great plot and characters that it should be a mandatory read in every elementary school. The Penderwicks on Gardam Street is my favorite, but they are all so good. If you haven’t read them, they are the perfect thing to read over winter break, and really any time at all!

What would be your perfect night?

My perfect night would be a calm night were I would play some board games with my family, write a little, read a little, play with my dog, play with my cats, then read a whole lot more.

Choose a random question that you’d like to answer: What are your favorite blog posts to write?

Probably tags like this, even though I’ve only ever done two, and discussion posts like Let’s Talk Bookish. I also love writing reviews, although those take a really really long time.

My Questions:

I was really stuck and could not come up with any ideas for questions, so I searched up ‘real neat blog award’, and did you know this book tag was created by Dear Kitty in 2014! Thats five going on 6 years, and it’s still going around today! Do book tags ever end, or do they just keep spiraling on through the universe forever and ever…

  • Who is one of your favorite book characters from any book or series you’ve ever read?
  • Summer, spring, fall or winter?
  • Where is your favorite place to read and write? Are they the same place?
  • What are your favorite blog posts to write?
  • Do you make graphics for your blog? If so, how?
  • Do you have any pets? If so, tell me more. If not, do you want any?
  • What are a few (or a lot if you prefer) of your favorite books you’ve read this year?

Tagging/Nominating:

I am tagging:

Fati @Library of March | Aelyn @Aelyn Reads | May @Forever and Everly | Olivia @Purely Olivia | Ikram@Readology | Hannah @Books, Life, and Other Oddities | Caitlin @Caitlin Stern Writes | YOU if you want to@yourownblog.com

For everyone I tagged, don’t feel any pressure to do it, and if you want to but I didn’t tag you, you should totally do it. This has been a really fun tag to participate in, and I want to do way more in the future!

Also, yesterday, when I finished writing this post my computer wouldn’t let me add any images, and then wouldn’t let me update it or publish it! So, I copied and pasted the post into a different draft, and that worked, and now its letting me add images again. But this is the second time this has happened to me!

Is this happening to anyone else!!!

Have you done this tag? Is your computer also not working? Coffee or tea? Chat with me in the comments below!

Happy Reading!
