Let’s Talk Bookish: Writing as a Reader

The last week has been full of book adaptation news some good, some bad. I saw The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes movie this weekend, and it was amazing! I went with some friends who also love the book, and I had a great time. I thought that it was a fantastic adaptation, and the story was done so well.

I’m also so sad that Shadow of Bone was cancelled, and I’m really hoping that it somehow gets saved!! The show has been so incredible for the last few seasons, and its so devastating that Netflix cancelled it. And then there’s also just one month left until the Percy Jackson show! I’ve been waiting for it for so long, and I can’t wait to watch it.

Anyways, this is all very unrelated from this week’s LTB topic, which is all about writing as a reader. So, let’s get into the post!

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly bookish meme created by Rukky @ Eternity Books and has been hosted by me since April 2022! Each Friday, there is a discussion topic for bloggers to write about. This week’s topic is writing as a reader, one of my topics!

What are your favorite kinds of writing?

I honestly don’t have a single favorite kind of writing. I love fiction writing, books and sometimes short stories. I also love writing blog posts and book reviews, and this is a pretty comforting style for me. And I also love journalism, and writing articles. I’m on my school’s newspaper, and write a lot for that.

These different kinds of writing all help me grow as a writer I think, and it’s also often nice to be able to switch between different kinds of writing, so I’m not just doing all of one thing.

For example, my blog is the most relaxing kind of writing. I’m usually just writing about books and my thoughts on what I’ve recently read. Fiction writing is harder; I’ll sometimes go a long time not doing any fiction writing, and then sometimes do a lot more of it.

I write a lot of news articles for my school’s newspaper, and I really like doing interviews and writing about things that are happening. There’s not so much of myself and my opinions in that kind of writing, which I do like. I’m able to focus on the content, less of making things up (like with fiction writing) or of writing about my own opinions (like with this blog).

How has being a reader shaped your writing? Are there certain books that have impacted your writing style? How does your reading connect to your writing?

Reading has really inspired me to write, in many ways.

Books like Six of Crows and The Priory of the Orange Tree have really impacted by fiction writing. I mainly write fantasy, so those beautifully written fantasy books have really influenced my own writing.

And that’s it for this week’s LTB – Thanks to everyone who participated in this week’s topic! If I missed your post, let me know and I’ll add it to the list.
