Let’s Talk Bookish: Do book titles matter?

Hello, and happy Saturday! It FINALLY rained today, which is such a relief because we’ve had an awful season of wildfires and smoke, and the rain is washing all that away. I also love fall, and having all this rain is making it really feel like October! Anyways, I’m a day late on this post, but I’m super excited for this week’s LTB, so let’s get into the post!

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly bookish meme created by Rukky @ Eternity Books and has been hosted by me since April of this year! Each Friday, there is a discussion topic for bloggers to write about. This week’s topic is do book titles matter? (suggested by Hannah @ Hannah’s Library).

How much do book titles matter? Have you ever read or not read a book based on the title alone?

Book titles are really important if you’re browsing the shelves of a library or bookstore, and are looking for something that will catch your eye.

If I see a book title that sounds interesting, then I’m more likely to pick up the book, or at least read the synopsis to see what its about.

Do you like long or short book titles better?

In general, I think I prefer short book titles. When the titles are good, I think its neat to see how it gives so much meaning to the book as a whole in just a couple of words.

Long book titles can be good though, and if they have a phrase that’s used in the book, once you get to that while reading, it’s always so satisfying!!

Do you think the title has to connect to the story in some way?

I mean, it doesn’t have to, but I definitely think it’s really neat if it does. It can give more meaning to a story, or can give the reader a new perspective on something.

An example of where a title connects to a story is Six of Crows. At first glance, it’s a unique title, but once you’ve read the book, it gains an even deeper meaning that helps you understand the characters more.

What are some of your favorite book titles?

These are five of my favorite book titles!
