Let’s Talk Bookish: Unhauling Books

Hello! This LTB post is a bit late, but I still want to get it published! This week’s topic is unhauling books, so I’m going to be talking about when I do (and do not) get rid of my books. This post didn’t end up being that long, but I did have a little to say! So, let’s get into the post.

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly bookish meme created by Rukky @ Eternity Books and has been hosted by me since April of this year! Each Friday, there is a discussion topic for bloggers to write about. This week’s topic is reviewing books, suggested by Amber @ Escape Life in the Pages!

Do you get rid of books often? Or do you hold on to every book you buy?

I don’t get rid of books that often. I usually hold onto books, and don’t like to get rid of them often. A lot of my books are from when I was a lot younger, and are ones that I loved in elementary and middle school. I also try to only get books that I’ve read before, loved, and want to reread, or books that I’m very confident I’ll like, so I don’t end up with a ton of books that I don’t like.

How do you decide which books to get rid of?

When I do get rid of books (which is definitely not often at all) it’s books that I know I’m not going to end up reading, or books that I didn’t like. When I get rid of books, I usually put them in my little free library, or give them to a friend, so I know that they’re going somewhere!

Are there any books you would never get rid of?

Definitely; there are lots of books that I would never get rid of!! I would never get rid of the books that were my favorites when I was younger, like Lois Lenski’s books, and the Penderwicks, and those are ones that I still like to reread now! I also will never get rid of the books I have that were my parents, because it’s cool to have books that were theirs when they were younger.

And I also wouldn’t get rid of books that are my favorites, even if they are a lot newer; my copies of The Henna Wars and Hani and Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating, for example, since they’re two of my favorite books!

  1. I just unhauled an entire bag of books yesterday! I only keep books I’m sure I’ll re-read, and I’m not attached to the ones I won’t. I use the UK website bookswap a lot, and if there’s no takers for my books on there I send them to charity shops. The only problem is trying to work out what to do with the ARCs.

  2. I try to hold onto books, but I also have been moving a lot, and when you have to pay to get the books across the country, it’s a pretty good incentive to get rid of ones you didn’t even like. 😛 So I usually donate them and hope someone likes them better.

    1. That makes sense, and that’s great that you donate them!! It always makes me happier getting rid of books knowing that other people are going to enjoy them more!

  3. OMG, I love this!! I’ve only just learnt to not be so possessive of my personal library and have gradually (about every 2 months) unhauled books I never liked to begin with, and books I’ve lost interest in. It’s been quite freeing since I’m not longer bound by the immense need to read every book I own at least once, though I do regret letting some popular books go now and then 😂
