Hello, and happy Friday! Today for LTB is a choose your own adventure/topic day, so I decided to go with an old topic that was originally suggested by Nicole @ Thoughts Stained With Ink. I’m excited to revisit this one, because I hadn’t gotten around to finishing my post before this. Anyways, I’m going to get right into this week’s discussion!
Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly bookish meme created by Rukky @ Eternity Books and is hosted by me! Each Friday, there is a discussion topic for bloggers to write about, and this week’s topic is a free choice topic, so I decided to go with an older topic from March: updating old blog content.
Do you ever go back and update older content on your blog? For instance, after getting new graphics or going self-hosted? Why or why not?
Not really. I’ve changed around the overall look of my blog a couple of times, but I don’t really go back and update older content. If you look really far back, then you can find my old graphics & blog theme, and I actually like having it still out there. If I want to, it’s a way that I can sort of look back to see what my blog used to be. It also feels like it would be a ton of work to go back and change the graphics on all my old blog posts, especially because hardly anyone reads them!
Do you sometimes curate/clear out old posts that you no longer want published, or rewrite/update them?
I don’t think that I’ve ever gone through and cleared out old posts. There are definitely a lot of older posts that I don’t think are all that great, and a lot of my earliest posts are very poorly written. My blog is a big part of who I am, but it also shows a lot of who I have been. My writing style, posting style, and overall blogging skills are constantly changing (and hopefully improving). But just because two years ago my posts weren’t as interesting to read, I don’t ever want to get rid of them. I also don’t want to rewrite them, because I feel like that it would be taking away a lot of my original thoughts and opinions on whatever topic I was writing about.
This blog is much more of a diary for me, where I can put my opinions (which are always changing) and it’s much less of an informational site. I don’t write posts with the intention for them to represent my thoughts and opinions for years to come. My opinions will change, but I don’t necessarily want to delete my old self from the history of my blog.
I also want to clarify that I’m not talking about my opinions on super serious topics here. Mostly, things like the kinds of books I like, or how I blog, or anything like that.
Do you think people should periodically clean up their old content and update/delete things that don’t align with their current positions/beliefs?
I think that people should do whatever makes them the happiest with their blog, as long as the content of their posts is respectful and doesn’t harm anyone. If someone wants to keep all of their old content updated with all their current positions and beliefs then I think that’s great.
Did I also write an entire post in 2019 about how I didn’t have an actual TBR of any kind, and just picked up whatever book I wanted to? Yes I did.
Wrapping this up…
My point is, opinions and positions change, and everyone deals with that differently. If you dug through the hundreds of posts I have on this blog, then I’m sure you would find a ton of conflicting stances on lots of different topics. I choose not to go back through them and update them though, because that’s not how I want to spend my time. But for people who do do that, I think that’s great!
I can’t wait to see all of the different topics you chose for this week, so if you have a blog post, don’t forget to add it to the link-up below!
