Hello and happy Wednesday! Today was my last day of school, so now I’m officially on spring break!! I’m so excited to have some time off, and to have more time to read, write and relax. Today the trailer for the Heartstopper Netflix show came out as well, and it looks really amazing. The casting all looks perfect, and I can’t wait to watch the show, which comes out on April 22nd. That’s so soon, and I really can’t wait!! Anyways, now I’m going to get to my weekly reading update:
WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On a World of Words, and how it works is each week I answer three questions about my the books I’ve read, finished reading and want to read next.
The three Ws:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
What are you currently reading?
I am currently reading Rick, by Alex Gino and Empire of the Sun, by J. G. Ballard. I’m really loving Rick; I’m not too far in, but I can tell already it’s going to be amazing. I’m really excited to read the rest of it!
I’m a little ways into Empire of the Sun, but it’s going kind of slowly. I’m going to take a brake from it for the next week or so, and revisit in a bit. Hopefully, it will go better when I pick it up again!
What did you recently finish reading?
Last week I read The One True Me and You, by Remi K. England (my review), Supernova, by Marissa Meyer and Ms. Marvel, Volume 6: Civil War II.
I loved The One True Me and You, and I know already that it’s going to be one of my favorite 2022 releases!! It’s an adorable romance with amazing lesbian and non-binary representation, and everything about the book is just incredible.
I finished Supernova, the third and final book of the Renegades trilogy just yesterday, and it was really good! I loved both Nova and Adrian’s character arcs throughout the series, and they were finished off really well in this book. Nova especially was fascinating to read about, and I loved the ways the different perspectives were used to tell the story. I really enjoyed the series, and I think that it was very well done.
I also read Ms. Marvel, Volume 7: Civil War II and really liked it. I’m loving the Ms. Marvel comics, and I can’t wait to read the next three. The trailer for the Disney plus Ms. Marvel show came out earlier this week too, and it looks so good!! Reading the comics is making me even more excited for the show!
I also decided to DNF Realm Breaker, by Victoria Aveyard this week. I’ve been wanting to read it since before it came out, so I’m a little sad that I’m not even going to finish it. It really just wasn’t for me. The writing felt too flowery and over-the-top descriptive, and honestly a lot of the extra details and flourishes felt unnecessary. I got over 50 pages in, but there wasn’t much happening and it kind of just dragged with introductions of way too many different characters. The names were also more obscure and hard to remember, in unnecessary ways. If a more description-heavy book is what you like, then you might like this one, but I don’t think that Realm Breaker was a good fit for me at all.
What do you think you’ll read next?
Next, I want to read A Deadly Education, by Naomi Novik, Daisy Jones & the Six, by Taylor Jenkins Reid and the next few Ms. Marvel comics.
One of my friends gave me a copy of A Deadly Education a little while ago, and now that I’m on spring break, I think I’ll have more time to read it now. It seems like a fascinating book, and I’m excited for it.
I read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo which is also by Taylor Jenkins Reid earlier this year, and I loved it. I’ve wanted to read Daisy Jones and the Six for a while, so knowing that I already love the author is making me even more confident that I’m going to love the book.
I also want to read the next few Ms. Marvel comics, and I’m excited to see what happens next with Kamala’s story. It’s especially fun to see which other Marvel characters show up in the comics, so that’ll be fun to look out for in the next few volumes.
