Hello! It’s the new year, and for the third time in a row I wanted to share my bookish resolutions for the year. Today is my last day of winter break, and it was nice to think about what I wanted to do for the next year, in terms of reading, writing and blogging. I have lots of goals and resolutions, so I’m going to get right to them in this post!
Number of books: My overall reading goal for 2022 is to read a total of 104 books. That adds up to a 2 books per week, and I think that I can do that! Some weeks I can read one book, some weeks I can read 3, and I think that this will be a very manageable goal for me.
Reading challenges: I’m doing three Storygraph reading challenges this year, aside from my overall goal of 104 books: I’m doing a sapphic reading challenge, a Lord of the Rings reading challenge, and a Rick Riordan reading challenge. The Lord of the Rings one is just to read all three Lord of the Rings books in 2022, which is something I want to do so I figured it would be fun to join a reading challenge for it. The sapphic reading challenge is 12 different prompts of various different types of sapphic books to read, and I’m excited for it. The Rick Riordan reading challenge is one that I started over on the Storygraph website, and it’s to read one book from each of Rick Riordan’s five mythology series.
Genres: I always love expanding my reading to different genres, and I haave a few goals in particular for 2022. I want to read more queer historical fiction, because I love historical fiction but I read very little with LGBTQ+ representation. I want to work on seeking out those books to read in 2022. I also want to read a couple of older classics this year. I’m not sure which ones I want to read, but I do want to try and dive into that genre a little.
And that’s all I have right now for my 2022 reading goals!
My fantasy book: In 2022, I want to really focus in on one of my current writing projects, instead of splitting my focus over lots of different books, like I did last year. I picked my high fantasy book because it’s the most fun for me to write, and I have a lot of ideas of what I want to do with it moving forward. I would really love to be able to complete a first draft, and then polish it up, maybe even having it ready to share with some people by the end of the year.
Nanowrimo: I’ve done all the nanowrimo events pretty consistently for the last two years, and I love doing them. Out of the six nanowrimo events that I’ve done, however, I’ve only completely reached my goal with one. I want to work on setting more realistic goals, but also to try and reach at least one of them in 2022.
Journaling: I did a little bit of bullet journaling in the first few months of 2021, and I think that it really helped me stay organized. I took a break for a while, but I got back to it at the end of December, and I want to keep up my bullet journal through all of 2022.
Consistency: I want to try and write a little bit every week of 2022. Some weeks I know I’ll write more than others, but I want to set aside I little time each week to focus on my creative writing. It’s easy for me to step away from my writing and to take breaks for a few months, but then its harder for me to get back into my projects.
Posting schedule: I want to keep up with making plans for all the posts I want to write each month, just making lists at the beginning of each month. This helps me stay on track for reviews I need posted and stuff like that.
Plan out and draft posts in advance: While scheduling posts really doesn’t seem to work for me, I want to try and draft a lot more of my posts in advance, even if I can’t completely finish them in advance. I want to try to do this on weekends so that when I go to write and post them, some of the work has already been done and I have a little less to do in the moment.
Blog hopping: I want to work on dedicating time every week to visiting other blogs, and engaging more in the blogging community because that’s something that’s really important to me, but I’m not always able to make time for it.
