WWW Wednesday 55

Hello, and happy Wednesday! Since my last WWW post, I’ve: started high school, had way too much homework, and somehow, read more in the last seven days than I have in any given week in a very long time. Most of this is thanks to my school library which I’ve gone to a bunch of times. It’s really amazing, and there’s a fantastic selection of books. Anyways, lets get into this little reading update!!

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On a World of Words, and how it works is each week I answer three questions about my the books I’ve read, finished reading and want to read next.

The three Ws:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading I Was Anastasia, by Ariel Lawhon, Bloody Spade, by Brittany M. Willows and The Mime Order, by Samantha Shannon.

I was Anastasia is so interesting, and is so well written. This is my second book by Ariel Lawhon, and so far, it’s just as amazing as the other one of her’s I’ve read, Code Name Helene.

I’m not too far into Bloody Spade, but I’ve been excited about this book for a while, and can’t wait to read more!! From the opening lines, it’s just so incredible, and I’m hoping to finish it over the next couple of days.

The Mime Order is the sequel to The Bone Season, which I loved. I’m not too far into The Mime Order, but so much has happened already, and I can’t wait to find out what happens next with it all.

What did you recently finish reading?

The Inheritance Games, by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, Gender Queer, by Maia Kobabe, and The Falling in Love Montage, by Ciara Smyth.

I’ve wanted to read The INheritance Games, but it wasn’t that high up on my TBR. I saw some people reading it at school, so I got a copy from my school’s library. I flew through it, and read it in a single night, and I loved it while reading it. However, it was weird having read The Westing Game and then reading this one. The Inheritance Games is clearly inspired by The Westing Game. This isn’t in a bad way, but having read The Westing Game allowed me to guess the main plot twist at the very beginning of the book, which made the ending a lot less satisfying for me. I’ll probably read the sequel, to know what happens.

I LOVED the every bit of The Falling in Love Montage, and cannot recommend this lovely sapphic contemporary more. I laughed, I cried, and I even annotated it (my first time every annotating any book.)

Gender Queer is definitely quite different to what I usually read: a graphic novel and memoir, but I loved it all the same. It’s a beautifully written and illustrated memoir of growing up and discovering who you are, through all the terrifying twists and turns of being genderqueer, and Maia Kobabe (e, em, eir) does an incredible job of telling eir story.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Next, I want to read Our Violent Ends, by Chloe Gong, Ace of Spades, by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé, and The Girls I’ve Been, by Tess Sharpe. I am so excited for the conclusion to the These Violent Delights duology, and I really really need to get to it!! I’ve heard so many amazing things about Ace of Spades that I know I’m going to love it, and I’ve wanted to read The Girls I’ve Been for forever, so it’s about time I finally got around to reading it.

Have you read any of the books I mentioned? What are you currently reading? Chat with me in the comments below!
