I haven’t done a Let’s Talk Bookish post in a month and a half, and this post is a day late, but this topic is too good to miss!
Before seeing this week’s topic, I didn’t know what abibliophobia is, so if you don’t know:
Abibliophobia is the fear of running out of reading material, and TBRs are lists of books you plan to read.
Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly discussion post created by Rukky @ Eternity Books and is hosted by Rukky and Dani @ A Literary Lion! This week’s topic is: Are big TBRs a result of abibliophobia? (suggested by Jillian @ Jillian the Bookish Butterfly).
Do you have abibliophobia?
The more that I think about it, I think that I have a sort of unconcious abibliophobia. I don’t sit down every day and think: I really really don’t want to run out of stuff to read. But do I also pack more books than I could ever read anytime I go on some sort of trip? Yes.
And I never go anywhere without books. I’ll either have a physical book with me, or maybe my kindle. I’ll at least have my phone, where I can listen to an audiobook, or read an ebook I have downloaded. At school (when it was in person) I would always have a book or two with me.
So do I have abibliophobia? I guess I do, sort of. But I don’t think that it’s necessarily a bad thing. I mean, books aren’t that bad to have around.
Do you add books to your TBR to keep it big, or is it a place where you keep books that seem interesting?
I don’t purposefully make my TBR big, but there are so many amazing books out there, and I don’t have time to read them all, so my TBR is very big!!
When I first made a TBR list, I put any random book that I thought looked interesting on the list. It grew really fast, and I realized that wasn’t a way that would be helpful to me. So, now I’m more selective with the books that I add to my TBR, putting only ones that I really want to read, and that I really think I’ll like.
There is an enormous amount of books I want to read though, so I don’t think I’ll ever need to spend extra time keeping it big.
Do you have multiple TBRs?
I have my main TBR, and other than that, my only other TBRs are the smaller monthly ones that I set. I also have a sort of ranking of books I want to read in my head, but it’s nothing super official. For example, Majesty is a book that I want to read at some point in my life, but An Ember in the Ashes is a series that I really want to read soon, and is definitely a higher priority!
Wrapping this up…
I’d never really thought about it, but I had a lot of fun writing this post and thinking about abibliophobia, why my TBRs are so big, and my incapability to somewhere without a book.
