Hello, and a very late Shana Tova! I haven’t posted in almost a week, but today I have a post that I have been meaning to write for a while. I would have called this a mid-year goals check in, but really, it’s way past the middle of the year.
Anyways, I’m just going to be going through the goals that I set at the beginning of the year, seeing how I’m doing on them, and also adding some new ones!
Goals from the beginning of the year:
Number of books: My 2020 reading goal was to read 200 books, and although I wasn’t sure how realistic that was when I set it, I think it’s going to be a good number. I’m actually ahead right now, so I’m excited about that. 200 books in 2020 is pretty satisfying a pretty satisfying number!
Genres: I wanted to read more fantasy novels, and mystery novels, because I like those and wanted didn’t read a lot of them. I think that I’ve done okay with fantasy, but not so much mystery.
I read The Gilded Wolves and The Silvered Serpents, the Six of Crows duology, The Priory of the Orange Tree, and I actually think a lot more fantasy than I realized! So I’m doing pretty good on that goal!
Posts: I wanted to write 160 posts this year. I said that I wasn’t sure how realistic that was but that I thought it was a good number to aim for.
I’m don’t know how many posts I’ve written so far this year, but that seems like quite a bit, to be honest. Maybe I was right? I’ll see at the end of the year!
My story: I wanted to finish my a first draft of my story (novel, book, whatever) this year, and I’m possibly going to do that? I wanted it to be somewhere between 50 and 75 thousand words (most likely not happening) and also said I was going to keep posting chapters of it on my blog. I decided not to do the chapter thing because it’s harder and more complicated and all that.
In April for camp nano I wrote part of another book I had the idea for, and got about 15 thousand words into that. In July I rewrote what I had written for the book I was talking about above, and got about halfway through my first draft. I’ve been working on that in the past few weeks a little.
Challenges: I said that I wanted to try taking part in a writing challenge of some sort. And I did! (at least I think so. I’m not exactly sure what I meant by a writing challenge.) I did camp nano in April and July, and that was really fun.
Consistent writing: I wanted to try to write a little everyday. That… did not happen. However, I did write a lot more than I ever have before, so I’m happy with that!
Journaling: I want to try to write in my journal 3 or 4 times a week (at least). I have a journal that I’ve been trying to write in everyday, but I know that every single day isn’t going to happen because I have so many other things I have to do, but I will try to write at least 3 times a week in my journal!
My plan was to try and write in my journal 3 or 4 times at least. That most definitely did not end up happening. I’ve tried to keep a journal a lot, but I have like 10, and I rarely write in them. A few months ago, I was opening my green one and saw that it had been exactly a year since I’d last written in it. I have tried to write in one a little every few weeks though!
Posting schedule: I wanted to post 3 times a week at least, and for the most part I’ve stuck to that! Sometimes more, and occasionally less. In the last month, not so much however…
Varied post topics: I wanted to post more of a variety of different types of posts, and that’s one goal that I think I’ve done pretty well on.
Recommendation posts: Oops. Haven’t done any of those yet haha
I will try to by the end of the year though! Maybe audiobooks I’ve enjoyed, or sequels that are worth reading, or something like that.
Blog hopping: I wanted to discover lots of new blogs in 2020, and that is something that I’ve definitely done! I have discovered so many amazing book blogs this year, especially with the 2020 book blogger awards, and it’s always so fun!
ARCs: (advanced reader’s copies) At the beginning of the year I had absolutely no idea how on earth the mysterious ‘arcs’ worked, and I was in awe of any blogger who had them. After a few months and many hours of intense research, I finally figured out a few things. Like how to request a book on Netgalley. (My advice now: it’s pretty straightforward, don’t overthink it or worry about being nervous requesting a book. Don’t do what I did.)
Keep up with tags: For a few months I did almost no tags, and then a huge list of ones that I’d been tagged for piled up and not I have like 20 to do. They’re really fun, and it always makes me so happy when people think of me for them, so thank you to everyone who has tagged me for anything, I’ll try to get to it soon!
Scheduling posts: I really want to schedule more of my posts, and I’m going to try to do that for the next few months at least some of the time.
Writing a few paragraphs on every book I read: I’ve been doing okay with this, but I really want to try and write a few paragraphs on what I thought of each book I read. “Daphne is a terrible person,” although true, isn’t good enough.
Blackberry Ink: this year in November for nanowrimo I want to write a draft of Blackberry Ink, the novel I’ve had the idea for since I was in 4th grade. That also means that I’m going to try to spend a lot of October plotting it out.
And that’s about it for today! Those are how I’m doing on the goals I set at the beginning of the year, and a few more that I want to try to reach by the end of 2020!
