Written in the Stars: August 2020 Owlcrate Unboxing

When your sister runs into your room screaming ‘you have to see this,’ drags you outside, and you both stare up at the cloud drifting overhead in amazement, the first cloud you’ve seen in a week, there is too much smoke in the sky.

When you look at the sun and immediately turn away because you didn’t realize that you’d actually be able to see it for once, there has been too much smoke.

And when your school (which is entirely online) gets postponed a week so it’s starting on the 21st there is way too much smoke.

I am very fortunately not in an evacuation zone, but the smoke from the Oregon fires has blown in and over Eugene, and the air quality is ‘very unhealthy.’ Although that is an improvement from hazardous.

Anyways, a couple weeks ago I got my very first Owlcrate box! It was really fun, and I’ve never gotten a book box or anything before, so I thought that I’d do an post with photo’s of everything that was in the box!

The book this month was Star Daughter, by Shveta Thakrar. The book has a beautiful purple and silver dust jacket, with purple sprayed edges. The book is signed and the spine really pretty with silver and black. I’d never heard of this book, but it looks really good. It’s about a girl who is half star and half mortal, and I’m really excited for it!

Inside the box was a clipboard with the worlds you shine brighter than any constellation in the sky. I’m not sure if that is a quote from Star Daughter, or another book.

The silver star pen is really nice, and I’ll definitely use it a lot!

Next, there was a bandana/headband with the words the dream chooses the dreamer. I’m pretty sure that’s a quote from Aurora Rising, but it might not be. It came folded up in a headband, but I unfolded it and untied it (oops) and I kind of like it better. I think that I might put it up on my wall because it’s really pretty, and I don’t see myself ever wearing it.

What might be my favorite part of the box was the book sleeve with the words we are all stardust and stories. It’s really pretty, and I’m definitely going to be using it.

There was a really cute star shaped bottle full of silver pushpins. I only have a tiny cork board in my room, but I think I”m going to put it on my bookshelf as a decoration.

The enamel pin was a lotus flower, which I think has some importance in the book. It’s really pretty, and I love the different shades of purple on it. (Also I know that it’s showing up sideways, I don’t know why that is.)

There was also a letter from the author about the book, which was really neat.

Overall, this whole box was really amazing! I loved all of the purple and blue, and everything with the stars. The art on the spoiler card, the booklet and the front of the letter from the author was all really beautiful, and the the cover of Star Daughter is stunning. The difference on this cover is that it’s purple and silver instead of gold, and I love that so much! Purple is my favorite color, and I feel like this box was an explosion of the night sky.

This box really also really reminded me of Zoë Nightshade. The silver and the stars just made me think of her character, and everything, especially the book sleeve, was just perfect for the hunter of Artemis.
