Hello there and happy Friday! Today’s topic is how to write your favorite post, so I chose how to write a discussion post, my favorite type of post to write! Talk Bookish is a weekly discussion post created and hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books and Dani @ A Literary Lion! This week’s topic is: Blogging 101: How to Write a Discussion Post!
Pick a fun topic!
What makes writing discussion posts so fun is the topic that you’re writing about! Like right now, I’m having so much fun writing this post because I really love writing discussion posts in general. There are lots of topics that you can write about in a discussion post. The topic doesn’t have to be completely new, because each post will be unique. Every person will have a different and unique take on any topic, and those are all fun to read!
Some bloggers have even made lists of discussion topics! Xandra @ Starry Sky Books has a wonderful list of discussion topics that she’d love to read about! I actually read a bunch of other posts with lists of topics but I can’t find them and don’t remember what blogs they were from. But there are lots of different topics out there that you can write about, and everyone is going to have their own unique take one it!
Structure you post: come up with key points that you’re going to write about
When I write discussion posts, I structure them with headings or key points. Like with this post, I have the main points in how I write discussion posts in the headings. That way, they stick out more!
Write about your opinions on the topic, how you really feel about it
If you’re not writing about a topic that you care about, a topic that you have strong opinions on, then it’s not going to be very fun for you to write. It’s also not going to be very fun for other people to read. If you write about a topic that you do have strong opinions on, then it’s going to be really fun for you to write, and really fun for others to read!
Summarize what you’ve said
At the end of the discussion, you should write a paragraph summing up what you’ve written in the post. For example, here is what the conclusion of this post could look like:
Discussion posts are my favorite kind of posts to write, so when I write them I make sure to really write about topics that I’m interested in and that I care about. I structure my posts by putting headings with the key points followed by paragraphs with more detail after. What’s most important to me when I’m write discussion posts is that I have fun with it, and that I’m writing a topic that I’m interested in and have strong opinions on.
