Hello and happy Friday! I hope that you are all doing well right now. Stuff is pretty crazy but also mellow for me because yesterday the governor of Oregon, where I live announced that all schools are going to be shut down for two weeks because of the coronavirus. Anyways, right now I’m going to stop talking about that and move on to this week’s Let’s Talk Bookish topic! Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly discussion post created and hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books. This week’s topic is: Favorite Way of Reading a Book, suggested by me!
What different ways of reading a book are there?
Physical books, e-books and audiobooks are the three ways that I read books. I definitely use some more than others, so for this post I’m going to be listing what I think are the pros and cons of each, and at the end, what my personal favorite is.
WHAT I LIKE:
I love reading physical books. The smell, the feeling of turning the pages, how I can get lost in a story while reading a physical book, all that. I also always carry books around with me, sometimes library books, sometimes my own, and having books with me is comforting!
WHAT I DON’T LIKE:
Physical books do take up space. A lot of space. Cramming two or three into my already packed backpack isn’t easy. Lugging them around school while carrying a binder and all of my school work isn’t always easy. And then there are the people who are like “haha you have four books with you”, or “why do you have four books with you” and they just don’t understand that maybe one you reading for school, another your reading on your own, the third for when you finish reading the second, and the fourth because it just can’t hurt to have to many books.
WHAT I LIKE:
They’re easy to carry around. If you’re traveling, you don’t have to worry about how you’re going to possibly fit all 16 books in your suitcase. (13 some would consider unlucky, even if I don’t, 14 doesn’t fit right, 15 is ok, but with 16 you can have 4 rows of 4!)
Also, e-books are considerably handier than physical books if you need to read while eating, or walking, or doing anything at all, as turning pages with a quick tap is quite a bite easier.
With e-books, you can also make your books fit your preferences much more easily. For example, on my kindle, I can change the font size, the font itself, the spacing, and all that good stuff.
WHAT I don’t LIKE:
E-books just don’t have the same special magic as physical books. Curling up with a cup of tea, your cat, a fuzzy blanket and a phone or e-reader just isn’t as fun for me.
WHAT I LIKE:
The thing that I love the most about audiobooks is that you can multitask while listening. I am a huge fan of multitasking, and that is why I love audio books so much.
Another thing, that can be either good or bad (and is probably good) is that when I listen to an audiobook, or someone reads a book aloud to me enough, I can only think of those characters, of that book, in the narrators voice. It’s just stuck in my head. Forever. Or at least for a while.
WHAT I don’t LIKE:
Audiobooks, like e-books just don’t hold the special magic that reading a physical book does, for me at least.
Audiobooks also don’t hold my attention as well as physical books or e-books. When I’m listening to an audiobook, I also have to be doing something else like my math homework, or getting reading for school, or just doing something with my hands, like knitting. (although I can’t knit. I wish I could though.)
So which is my favorite?
All of those types of reading are great for different reasons. Audiobooks allow you to multitask more easily, e-books take up little space and are easy to transport and physical books are, well, look at what I wrote before. I can’t summarize well enough. However, in my opinion, which you may or may not share, I think that physical books are the best. I read physical books way more than e-books or audiobooks, and I just overall enjoy them more.
Sooo, in my 6 month blogiversary post I did a Q and A, but I need more answers so please, if you have a few minutes would you fill it out? I would really appreciate it!!!
